Thomas has lived in Sonoma County since 1964, growing up near Forestville and attending the local schools. In 1975 he received his A.S. Degree from Santa Rosa Junior College, in 1982 his B.A. from Sonoma State University, and in 1998 his J.D. from Empire College School of Law, graduating with honors cum laude. While attending law school, Thomas was also a Law Clerk for the Office of the District Attorney here in Sonoma County.

Thomas passed the California Bar Exam in 1998, and has been a member of the State Bar of California since that time. He is also a member of the Sonoma County Bar Association, a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), and a member of the Collaborative Council of the Redwood Empire (CCRE).

In addition to his legal career, Thomas also accumulated several years of management experience in manufacturing and in quality at Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies. Thomas' legal practice is focused in the areas of wills and trusts, estate planning, probate and trust administration, Collaborative Divorce, and mediation.
